Organizational Information
This section contains general information on rules and
regulations, organizational structure, and membership policies.
THAI is a non-profit,
non-partisan network of students, practitioners, teachers and institutions involved in
traditional Thai healing arts. Varying levels of membership reflect members’
experience, formal study hours and hands-on practice, and semi-annual dues vary
according to each level of membership. Instructors, practitioners and institutions who reside in Thailand are granted free membership in THAI. THAI is directed by the Executive
Council, under leadership of the Director, with guidance and assistance from Advisory Council members and the
general membership.
Application for membership
New members are accepted at any time upon successful completion of an application, receipt of dues, and review and approval by the Membership Committee.
It generally takes about two weeks for a new application to be processed. New
members are sent a welcome package and their member certificate by mail.
Regardless of when a new member is accepted, the membership period expires on
Dec 31 of each two-year cycle. Refunds are not allowed once a member has paid dues.
Renewal of membership
Membership certificates are renewed every 2 years upon receipt
of dues. All
memberships auto-renew by credit card during the last days of each membership
cycle unless a member
makes a request in writing to be officially dropped from the organization.
Renewal reminders are sent by mail and by e-mail in the months prior to renewal.
Members may upgrade for free to a higher level at any time during their
membership by completing and submitting the Form U upgrade form, which is
available in the members' section of the THAI web site. Dues for higher levels of membership are not due until the next
renewal period.
Upgrading membership
Basic Members and Practitioners are allowed to upgrade
to the next level of membership for free during any two year member cycle,
pending submission of all study certificates and other application requirements.
There is no free upgrade from Advanced Practitioner to Instructor level, or from
Instructor to Institution level.
Instructor and Institution Guidelines
All courses and workshops approved by Thai Healing Alliance must first be submitted for approval by the Council through a written application process. Courses may be offered in any region of the world, but all must be taught by instructor(s) who hold active membership in the Organization, and whose curricula are approved for qualifying credit toward advancing levels of membership in the
organization. There are separate levels of membership for Instructors and
Institutions, each with their own application, requirements and parameters of
membership.
Grandfathering period
For a period of time determined by the Executive Council, practitioners and instructors who have studied with recognized teachers or institutions but who fall short of the required number of formal study hours
may be allowed membership in THAI at an appropriate level. This “grandfathering" process may be applied only once for each prospective qualifying member and will be granted only upon review and approval by Council members
and the Membership Committee. If a member is admitted in this fashion, he/she must progress to further levels of membership in accordance with the normal protocol and regulations for all members.
The Executive Council
Executive Council members may be nominated for service by any
member of the organization. They are approved by the Council and serve an initial three year term. The Executive Council works together on developmental issues, marketing, fund-raising, core objectives, standardization
issues, and other matters. At least one Council meeting per year is held, and attendance by Executive Council members is required.
All Advisory and Committee members are also invited to attend the annual
meeting.
The Advisory Council
The Advisory Council is comprised of respected individuals whose contributions to traditional Thai healing arts
are significant, and who are invited by the Executive Council to serve an
initial, renewable three year term. The Advisory Council gives feedback to the Executive
Council regarding issues of development, organizational growth, outreach and
other matters.
Committee Members
Committee members volunteer in areas of member
outreach, fund raising, research and publications, regional activities, publicity and other areas. They carry out activities relevant to their goals,
hold conference calls, and
help to co-sponsor workshops and activities.
